15 FACTS ABOUT TITHING IN THE BIBLE

 Should tithe be paid or not in these days of ours? An interesting question actually, but in this post I will be presenting to you 15 passages on tithe in the scriptures. At the end of the post, you can decide if you should pay tithe or not and when to pay it.

15 FACTS ABOUT TITHING IN THE BIBLE

1. Abraham gave Melchizedek king of Salem a tenth of everything after Melchizedek blessed him, 

    not before the blessing
    Genesis 14: 18 - 20

2. The payment of the first tithe was done before the laws were given to Moses. It was done willingly.
     Genesis 14: 18 - 20

3. The first two people to pay tithe (Abraham and Jacob) did not pay it under compulsion. They did
    willingly from their heart. No one asked them to. They gave it out in form of appreciation unto
   God.
       Genesis 28 :20 - 22,      Genesis 14; 18 -20

4. The tithe was later introduced as a law in Israel
     Leveticus 27 : 30 - 34

5. The tithe was established in Israel for the Levites as an inheritance.
     Numbers 18 : 21

6.  The Levites in Israel also pay tithe of the tithes they received
      Numbers 18 : 26

7.  During tithing, God specifically instructed that a celebration with members of ones family be held.
     Numbers 12 : 6 -  7

8.  During celebration, you must not eat your tithe in your own towns, but rather in the presence of
     God, at the place where God has chosen for you.
       Numbers 12 : 17 -  18

9.  If the place where God chooses is too far away from you, you can decide to celebrate in your
     own town.
     Numbers 12 : 21

10. Tithe payment was done at the end of every three years.
       Deuteronomy 14 : 28,   Amos 4:4

11.  Tithe payed is meant to take care of the orphans, widows,  the poor, levites and people from
       other places who come to seek for food, shelter and clothing.

12.  The poor did not pay tithe in Israel.
        Deuteronomy 14 : 29

13. Not much was said about tithing again after the book of Deuteronomy, until it was re-established
      again by Nehemiah during the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem after Israel's seventy years
      captivity.

14.  The tithe you pay and every other thing you own belong to God.
       Leviticus 27 : 30,   Haggai 2: 8

15.  Jesus Christ and his disciples did not pay tithe and he never instructed anyone to do so.
